Critical Role Keyleth Costume WIP

I am Keyleth, an Air Ashari, like my mother before me. I was made to pass through fire." -Keyleth, Vox Machina played by Marisha Ray.

When I finished my Masters I had a few goals I wanted to do and one of them was to improve my skills in costume construction. After making my Masters costume I realised I had more love than I thought for making rather than just designing and wanted to expand on that. Id already started making my first full costume with lots of different construction elements which you can see here>.

The character I chose to make a costume for was the character Keyleth from Amazon Primes "The Legend of Vox Machina" series by Critical Role. When watching the series I felt really drawn to her character and loved her simple yet interesting design. I did some research and found the perfect pattern by Indigo Patterns to make the dress part of the costume. Next thing to do was to source the fabrics, I chose this emerald green silk dupion and faux sued from Minerva Fabrics, once I had these I got to work!

The Finished Dress/Tunic

This is the finished result of the dress or tunic? Im really pleased with the end result. I learnt a lot throughout this project, such as applying piping in a garment and satin stitching for the first time!

Some feedback Id give myself would be to make sure my toile was a good fit as my final garment was a bit small on the bust and could fit better on the waist. Id also probably choose a different dark green fabric and get something that would contrast better with the brighter green fabric and the texture of this fabric proved slightly difficult to work with at the end. The other thing I did was not cut my piping on the bias which created a puckered look.

However regardless of that I'm very pleased with my work especially the upper portion part. I'll be making the rest of the costume soon so check this page at a later date for more updates.
