Astrid Hofferson

Ever since I watched How to Train Your Dragon from an early age, I’ve dreamed of a reality where I, too, could be a dragon rider. The female lead, Astrid Hofferson, always stood out to me , a fiercely determined Viking warrior known for her confidence, loyalty, and formidable fighting skill. She was my role model. I wanted to be her: swinging her axe, explosions in slow motion behind her, riding her dragon Stormfly -the whole sha-bang.

She was one of the first characters I ever wanted to cosplay. When I first got into cosplay I planned to make her. I even attempted Astrid’s raven skull accessories out of air-dry clay (they weighed a ton). The project never progressed beyond those pieces and they were eventually scrapped, but I always intended to make her properly one day. That was back in 2019, so six years later, at the end of 2024, while planning future builds, I decided it was finally time to make Astrid’s costume properly and scratch that itch.
